What Would Jesus Buy?

The buck stops here.

The buck stops here.

The Shopocalypse happened, just as Rev. Billy predicted. The Church of Stop Shopping has shrewdly (c’mon now – no one shops. This is America. We trade one extreme for another.) changed its name to The Church of Life After Shopping.

The concept is fascinating. Reverend Billy and his Life After Shopping Gospel choir have made it their mission to educate the public about consumerism. His argument is that the fundamentalist religion reigning in America is consumerism. Corporations want us to have experiences only through their products; their marketing departments control our behaviors, make us dream their advertising.

His mission? Produce dynamic, informed public campaigns that enact our core values – participatory democracy, ecological sustainability, and the preservation of vibrant communities and local economies.

I love it.
